Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly relevant to anaesthesiology; however, a substantial implementation gap persists between the technical development of new tools and their safe adoption in clinical practice. This article provides a practically oriented narrative review of what the anaesthesiologist may encounter today or in the near future across the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of patient care. For each application, its clinical maturity and the principal barriers to direct translation into practice are outlined. The review, therefore, also includes a practical framework for the safe adoption of this new technology in clinical practice, covering implementation, regulation, clinical accountability, human factors, trust in automation, and artificial intelligence literacy among clinicians.
Keywords: artificial intelligence, anaesthesiology, perioperative care, machine learning, clinical decision support, clinical implementation.
